Week 1

The Baby Witch... or whatever that means

“Write your spiritual autobiography.” The task seems simple enough… until you realize that you have to put your own spirituality into words. My spirituality is really simple to me, but when I’m asked to explain it, the more complex it becomes.

Week 2

A Little Catholic School

Being raised in a Catholic setting was not at all what people expect. I was baptized, my family believed in God, but my father’s family were the biggest fans of the religion. At home, it wasn’t like the religion was shoved down my throat. My mom wasn’t baptized and she wasn’t raised in the faith like my father was. Either way, my contact with Catholicism was not through my parents, but through my elementary education.

Week 3

The Religious Hypocrites

I had already started to distance myself from Catholicism and organized religions when I left the Catholic school system in favor of public school, but I think the final nail in the coffin was my father and his family. As I said before, my father’s family was extremely big on religion and Catholicism, which makes their reactions to what happened to my family so infuriating and, at the time, shocking.

Week 4

The Separation

My mom tried to find religion again a few years after the divorce. I can’t say if she did or not, but I know she went to church for a while and my brother and I went with her. I didn’t enjoy it as much as she did, but it made her feel better about her life, so I dealt with it.
